There were 373 sexual assault victims in the Northern Territory during 2014, compared to 366 in 2013.
In the Northern Territory during 2014:
The majority of sexual assault victims (91% or 340 victims) were female;
Half (50% or 185 victims) of all sexual assault victims were aged 19 years and under;
Nearly half (44% or 165 victims) of all sexual assaults occurred in a community location; and
The offender was known to around three in five victims (58% or 216 victims), with one in five victims (18% or 68 victims) identifying the offender as a family member.
There was a 17% increase in the number of robbery victims in the Northern Territory, from 96 in 2013 to a five year high of 112 in 2014.
In the Northern Territory during 2014:
Males accounted for 61% of robbery victims or 63 victims;
The most common location in which robbery occurred was a community location (54% or 61 victims);
A weapon was used in just over two-fifths of all robberies (41% or 46 victims); and
The offender was a stranger to the victim in two out of three robberies (67% or 70 victims).
There was a 24% increase in the number of motor vehicle theft victims in the Northern Territory, from 771 in 2013 to 953 in 2014. Of all motor vehicles stolen, 41% (388 victims) were taken from a community location, while over a third (37% or 354 victims) were taken from a residential location.
